Proceed to new site (Gallery 2.3.1)

Notes:  November 18, 2010

  • The pop-ups on the intro pages are NOT gone... although I'd imagine some of you wish they were(!)  I just finally got motivated to refine the code for them a bit.  For those of you who have never seen it, it's just basically a shortened version of what's on the page 'About Misty Slims and friends'.  If you have Javascript disabled, that'll always disable the pop-up.  If you block cookies, but have Javascript enabled, it'll pop-up on every page load.  Some pop-up blockers may block it.  The one in Firefox doesn't appear to.  However, I don't know much about pop-ups, much also probably depends on your browser security settings, etc.

  • I would NOT recommend disabling Javascript for the Misty Slims and friends sites.  For some of the YouTube videos, I wrote a Javascript which initializes the video player and also splices into the video... that is, it only plays part of the YouTube video.  If you have Javascript disabled, you won't even see the video player.  BTW, if someone knows how to use the YouTube Javascript API to stop the downloading of a video file, please(!) let me know how this is done.  What's more, I'll probably soon have finished Javascripts to access the other embedded players on the MSAF sites, so I can then only play part of those videos as well.

  • I don't collect any personal information with the cookie used by the pop-up.  I only use the cookie so that the pop-up pop-ups only once a day.  Basically, the cookie expires in 24 hours.  And it's only one php session variable for all the MSAF sites... in other words, if you go to Newport and others too, you get the pop-up, then you go to Misty Slims and friends a few minutes later, you shouldn't get the pop-up.

  • Although I'm uncertain it's a good idea, I have the commenting system in Gallery enabled.  I want this to be abundantly clear:  I will be very critical of all comments.  Generally, negativity will not be acceptable.  In my mind, generally speaking, virtually all anti-smoking dialogue is inappropriate for what I want this place to be, and I deem most of that as 'negativity' for this venue.  Crudely, or overtly sexual comments will not be acceptable.  Crudeness of any kind will not be acceptable.  You can communicate almost anything you might wish to say as long as you express your ideas in a dignified manner respectful in regards to the ads, cigarettes, and tobacco, and all parties involved.  If I decide allowing comments is not working out, or if there's too much dissatisfaction with my moderation, I'll disable the commenting module.  If you wish to discuss any of these commenting guidelines and boundaries, please email me.  I don't want any discussion of this in the comments.
