I've collected cigarette ads most of my
life, on and off, for about forty years. The cigarette ads have always
been of deep personal significance to me. For myself as an individual, I
miss, and am deeply sorrowed, by the loss of virtually all cigarette
advertising. I smoke Salem Lights 100s intermittedly, but not regularly
anymore, and pretty much only at home. When I do still smoke, it's no more
than a few cigarettes in a day.
The purpose, or motivation, for this site is to share with you some of my favorite cigarette ads from my cigarette ad
collection. I believe Misty Slims and friends, in one form or another, has
been online for 10-15 years now, since the mid- to late-1990s.
All material posted to all the Misty Slims and friends sites is reflective of MY personal sentiments and beliefs concerning cigarettes and my favorite brands which I've absorbed and developed through my life experience. Some of the ads from my collection I have
changed a bit to better reflect MY personal sentiments and beliefs about cigarettes and my favorite brands I wish to express. In no way should any of this expression of MY personal sentiments and beliefs be seen as reflective of the views of any company and/or organization, tobacco or otherwise. This site is NOT affiliated with any tobacco company in any way.
I do not own stock in any company1,2. I've never owned any stock in any
tobacco or advertising agency, nor have I ever worked3 for a tobacco company or
advertising agency. Further, neither am I aware of any connection anyone in my family, extended or otherwise, has, or has had, with the tobacco industry.
Neither am I aware of being related to any tobacco farmers. If you have any further questions concerning myself or my personal opinions or views, please email me at the address below or utilize the information
on the right hand side below.
You're free to contact me about the Misty Slims and friends anytime. I enjoy talking about cigarette ads, and related matters, with anyone interested.
Misty Slims and friends is the main site. Eve and others too, Kool Magic, Newport and others too, Salem Spirit to share, and Virginia Slims and friends are subsites.
I hope you have a pleasant day and enjoy your visit here at Misty Slims and friends!
1 However, for instance, I do have a couple 401Ks, one from a
previous job, and one from my current job. I'm not even aware what
industries, or companies, the 401K funds are invested in. I'm not an
expert on investment terminology, but for my purposes here at least, I don't
consider that to be "owning stock" in a company. Again, I'm not
an expert in investment matters, but I think it's a 'stretch' to claim that even
if any of these funds are invested in tobacco-related businesses that that would
give me a monetary interest in selling cigarettes, or make me some nature of
monetary "stakeholder" in selling cigarettes. (If you've never
considered this issue before, someone could claim that I, like virtually
everyone else, is some nature of monetary "stakeholder" in
selling cigarettes because federal, state, and even local governments collect
substantial cigarette taxes, and we're all beneficiaries of government services
provided, in part, through cigarette taxes. Similarly, however, I'd think
such a claim would be a bit of a 'stretch'.)
2 I've only owned stock in one company, the retail company I
currently work for, a major general merchandise retailer that does sell
cigarettes, and other tobacco products. But no, NOT a retailer that
singularly sells cigarettes, and other tobacco products, i.e., a tobacconist, a
tobacco shop, or a tobacco retailer per se. I
inadvertently started participation in the stock purchase program, but shortly
thereafter, I realized that holding that stock might be viewed as having some
monetary interest in selling cigarettes, or make me some nature of monetary
"stakeholder" in selling cigarettes. So, I discontinued
participation in the stock purchase program, and have now sold my (1.33
shares!?!) of company stock. I no longer hold any stock in the retail
company I work for, nor do I own stock in any company.
3 However, I have worked in convenience stores, grocery stores,
and other general merchandise retailers as a casher selling cigarettes, along
with groceries, and the other products sold by the retailer I was working
for. But no, I've never worked for a retailer that singularly sells
cigarettes, and other tobacco products, i.e., a tobacconist, a tobacco shop, or
a tobacco retailer per se. Neither have I ever worked for a tobacco
distributor. The most tobacco-related business I've ever worked in is
general merchandise retailers that sell cigarettes, and other tobacco products.
(Working for a tobacco retailer might be something I'd like, but I never
have. In fact, when I was younger, I was in school for Marketing, and
wanted to go into cigarette advertising. But, I changed majors, and I
never worked in cigarette advertising, nor in any advertising. Again, I
might like working in cigarette advertising, but I just never have.)
