I'm a cigarette ad collector. I've collected cigarette ads most of my life.
I'm back to smoking Salem Lights 100s, i.e., 'Gold' 100s, in the new lingo. The
electronic cigarette is okay, but it's not the same, and it does not meet my
psychological needs very well. There's just no "feeling"
associated with the electronic cigarette.
I'm still not pleased with the lack of any
good new cigarette ads,... very occasionally, I might find a Newport ad.
There seems no way to stop our governments here in the US from destroying
everything that made cigarettes and cigarette ads worthwhile.
Many of my political views would probably upset
most Americans. I consider myself liberal, a left libertarian. If
you're thinking the Libertarian Party here in the US, no... they're right
libertarians. Like right libertarians, I am also very concerned about
governmental power. Unlike right libertarians, I'm also quite concerned
about dense concentrations of private power, like giant corporations. Right
libertarians are often kind to me, but we have our disagreements.
I've been told more than once that I can't be
liberal, I can't be a 'left' libertarian, and like cigarettes, and cigarette
ads. The only response I have to that is "here I am." We
hear all the time today about all the negatives concerning cigarettes, cigarette
ads, etc. I, too, know the negatives of cigarettes... my mother died of
lung cancer. Although she was a heavy smoker for over forty years, her
cancer wasn't caused by cigarettes. Big cell, small cell,... she had the
one not associated with cigarettes. Although since I lived with her while
she was dying, I can say that lung cancer, whether caused by smoking, or not, is
a miserable way to die.
However, my mother did have respiratory problems
in the last ten years or so of her life that probably were caused by her
smoking... and I've had many aunts and uncles who did die of cancer that was
caused by smoking.
I lived with my parents most of my adult
life. My mother knew what my cigarette ads meant to me. She felt,
and I feel too, that as long as I don't smoke too much that the benefits can
justify the risks. However, governmental action has pretty much eliminated
most of the benefits one might get through cigarettes. I know there's no
arguing with them. I can't stop them, any more than the people abroad can
stop them from occupying their countries either.
Anyway, I'd better stop. As I indicated,
many of my political views are not mainstream, and often they're not received... well.
I have been updating Misty Slims and friends a bit lately, but you still might like to visit my Math site... although I'm not making much progress with the things I'm studying now.
I don't really have much time right now since I'm working and going to school.
The purpose, or motivation, for this site is to share with you some of my favorite cigarette ads from my cigarette ad collection, particularly of course, those from the Misty series. I believe many of these ads to be some of the best advertising of all time.
All material posted to all the Misty Slims and friends sites is reflective of MY personal sentiments and beliefs concerning cigarettes and my favorite brands which I've absorbed and developed through my life experience. Some of the ads from my collection I have
changed a bit to better reflect MY personal sentiments and beliefs about cigarettes and my favorite brands I wish to express. In no way should any of this expression of MY personal sentiments and beliefs be seen as reflective of the views of any company and/or organization, tobacco or otherwise. This site is NOT affiliated with any tobacco company in any way.
As stated previously, I've never owned any stock in any company1, tobacco or otherwise, nor have I ever worked for any tobacco company or advertising agency. Further, neither am I aware of any connection anyone in my family, extended or otherwise, has, or has had, with the tobacco industry.
Neither am I aware of being related to any tobacco farmers. If you have any further questions concerning myself or my personal opinions or views, please email me at the address below or utilize the information
on the right hand side below.
You're free to contact me about the Misty Slims and friends anytime. I enjoy talking about cigarette ads, and related matters, with anyone interested.
Misty Slims and friends is the main site. Eve and others too, Kool Magic, Newport and others too, Salem Spirit to share, and Virginia Slims and friends are subsites.
I hope you have a pleasant day and enjoy your visit here at Misty Slims and friends!
1I haven't decided quite how to change
my assertions here,... actually, I just found out that the stock purchase thing started in 2009, not when the 2010 benefits start. I stopped the stock purchase deduction for now until I figure out what I'm going to do. I might sell the stock I've already purchased, or I might continue with the employee stock purchase deduction. I don't work for a tobacco company, but it is a retail
company that does sell cigarettes.
